The Price of Beauty

The first reality TV show was obviously not enough for Jessica Simpson, the lady is back for more.
The Price of Beauty debuts on VH1 this coming Monday at 10pm.

Following the star globe trot she talks with everyday women and discovers what constitutes as beauty in other countries. First stop Thailand and skin bleaching...

Can we expect anymore chicken of the sea comments? Come on!...I'm sure :)

I love the concept, lets hope that she gains some press that's unrelated to John Mayer, over it!

CEW, West Side

Some fellow FIDM students and I attended the CEW event on Tuesday night at the Beverly Hilton - Hello networking, cocktail hour and conversations with Jillian Dempsey and Sonia Kashuk!

Jillian Dempsey is the Global Creative Color Director for Avon Cosmetics, and Mrs. Kashuk is the creator of Sonia Kashuk Beauty at TARGET. Both women began their careers in the beauty industry as profesional makeup artists - how else would Mrs. Dempsey have meet the dashing Patrick (check the last name...*dream* ah if only blush could lead me to such a fate... )

What tips and tricks did I take away from the evening?

- "A little goes a long way, and less is always more." Funny - I've always thought MORE is more!

-Makeup can make you FEEL like a different woman and that is why it's so special.

-"Creating and illusion is important." That means fake lashes, acrylics, permatan...its all fabulous as long as you play the maintenance game, ladies - up-keep is a biatch.

-"Most women still have the fear factor when it comes to makeup and application, but having the right tools can fix this." Sephora anyone?!

Thank you CEW for all the fun and and even bigger thank you to all the sponsors for the goodie bags! Gotta love Redbook, Stila Cosmetics, Smashbox, NYXBeauty...

Love you all xoxo

Napoleon Perdis

"Creativity always needs to be rewarded"

So I just got to met famed makeup artist Mr. Napoleon Perdis himself :)

FIDM's prestige Beauty Circle got the privileged of hearing Napoleon talk about his life and career in beauty, his inspirations and his future career plans.

If your ever feeling unmotivated this is the man to talk to. Just hearing about his success really has pushed my that little bit further to be the next Helena Rubinstein!

Napoleon Perdis is the most popular and successful makeup line in Australia, beating such US competitors as MAC Cosmetics while appearing on Australia’s Next Top Model.

His recent launch into the US market can only be described as a huge success, his prestige line can be found at Ulta.
For a lower price point his mass line is available to all at Target with his NP sets.

Everyone's a winner baby!

What does the future have is store?
We can all look forward to an uber Organic Napoleon Perdis collection that is currently being developed.
'Forever Flawless' his book that offers step-by-step makeup application for ALL ages with NO photo shopping, is released this coming April. Napoleon say’s "there is a need to keep things basic" when the skin is perfectly hydrated anything can be created. Feeling this is going to be a good read!
Then there's the new color collection inspired by the aboriginal dream sequences. Can’t wait to peek at these.

But what has got me really going in the April 2011 launch. Where? UK ladies better get to Selfridges. Yesssss! The world really is his playground.

One could be forgiven for thinking that a man so highly sought after in the beauty industry could be, what shall I say? Pompous or a diva darling for lack of better phrasing.
Nope, not here. Mr Perdis was super approachable, willing to answer all questions and pose for picture flash time. He even brought the group goodies. Swoon. He has my vote plus some.

Oscar Beauty

Best Actor, Best Motion Picture....yeah yeah we will be hearing about these categories endlessly. But a different award caught my attention: Best Makeup in Film.

Three nominees battled for the title, Aldo Signoretti and Vittorio Sodano for Ill Divo, Barney Burman, Mindy Hall and Joel Harlow for Star Trek and Jon Henry Gordon and Jenny Shircore for The Young Victoria.

Personally I was hoping for the artistic brushes behind The Young Victoria- love period pieces, and I love the makeup story behind Queen Victoria. Did ya'll know that when Queen Victoria was found dead she had 2inches of makeup on her face- gross I know! Her makeup and her appearance was such a large and important part of her presence and speaks greatly of her time in history.
Back to the Oscars...golden man went to Star Trek's threesome. I’m no Star Trek fan but even I can’t argue this, the makeup truly belongs in another world. The craftsmanship deserves recognition.

I wish there was greater emphasis on Best Makeup (Best Costume too), I know no leading lady will not be caught on screen without her High Definition Foundation! What is a film without makeup, it would be the same as eating a cupcake without the frosting, child perlease!

Zoe Oscars 2010

Zoe Saldana
Dressed amazzzzzing! She rocks this gown I’m in Love. Love. Love.
The rhinestones, sheen is the obvious choice for 2010, I challenge you to find top 20 female with out the same concept on their gowns tonight! But Miss, Saldana mixes it up with layered purple to lilac pompoms, riscky yes, boring no, perfect of course!

I really wish more stars would take a risk, it obviously pays off.

She is the star stopper, yes Sandy looks fabulous and SJP in Chanel couture is pretty as always but OMG that dress will be the height of her career. Remembered for Avatar yeah, remembered for THE Oscar dress 2010 HELL YES!

Life has been busy but on the plus time and experiences have left me with a lot of new topics! Yey
